What Brings People Here?
Our childhood and life experiences, physical or mental condition, addictions or collective family history may have created difficult circumstances in our lives. We might be in pain, sad or confused. We may be exhausted, tired of being strong or pleasing others. Maybe we don't feel that we are enough or the idea of happiness or wellness can seem like an illusion. Whatever your circumstance may be, therapy can help you learn to be your own agent of change.
There is a complex interconnection between mind, body, heart and spirit. Health and wellbeing is achieved when all these aspects of our self is in balance. It doesn't matter if our body is healthy and fit if we are consumed by feelings of sadness or that we have a perfect and successful career if we feel disconnected from our world and those around us. Life can be full of possibilities but we may have fear and doubt clouding our vision or everything can look wonderful on the outside while we feel physically and mentally exhausted and overwhelmed.
Therapy helps you learn the skills needed to find different narratives that transform painful experiences into stories of strength and resilience as you approach them from a different perspective.
The work Terra does with individuals, families and groups is informed by an Indigenous worldview. This means, she considers all aspects of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual health, collective family histories, lifestyle, food and nutrition in your time together. Her approach is trauma and attachment informed, which means she has a deep understanding of how trauma affects the brain, body, thoughts and emotions, how we are shaped by our earliest bonding experiences and how this continues to play out in our relationships.
ERP and PE aren't about pushing through pain for no reason. They're about gently, deliberately teaching your brain and body that you can tolerate uncertainty and discomfort — without needing the compulsion, the avoidance, or the reassurance to get there.
It's structured and tailored to set you up for success. It's not a different conversation every week — it's a process which builds session over session toward a specific outcome: getting your time, your relationships, and your sense of self back.
You don't have to keep managing this on your own, and you don't have to keep explaining yourself to someone who doesn't specialize in this. Let's build a process that actually gets somewhere.
Terra uses a combination of the following approaches depending on what is right for you:
Psychodynamic - Aims to bring the unconscious or hidden parts of ourselves into awareness, so we can make sense of our experiences. This can help relieve emotional and physical symptoms. (MIND)
Somatic (Body Oriented) - Aims to locate where your emotions and experiences have become stored in your body. What happens in the body affects what happens in the brain! When you work with the mind you must also work with the body to access and heal our deepest wounds. (BODY)
Existential - Focuses on free-will, self-determination, and finding meaning in a world that can often feel meaningless. (EMOTION)
Transpersonal - Views people not only as human beings but also as spiritual, energetic beings and cosiders your spiritual self on your healing journey. (SPIRIT)
This is your path, we move at your pace to discover your own purpose.
Terra Whole Health is a welcoming space for anyone from all cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds and for people of all abilities, genders and sexual orientations.
