Terra Yott BA, BEd, RSW, MSW

I am a single mother of three spirited young adults who have been the inspiration for my studies and work. When I am not at her desk you can find me on long walks with my dog Kona or working around my home. My grandson, nieces and nephew fuel my zest for life and wonder for the world.

With family ties to the home of my heart, Cape Breton, I proudly identifies with my Mi’kmaq and mixed European Settler ancestry, and am actively immersed in culture, history, and tradition with strong connections to my community in Niagara.

My love and deep respect for land-based knowledge and health is foundational to the work I do with others as they rediscover a life worth living.

“Everyone deserves to feel good about who they are.”

Onaubinisay, Elder James Dumont

I approach health and wellbeing from an Indigenous worldview as a Wholistic Practitioner, which means I consider all aspects of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual health, family/collective histories, culture, lifestyle, food and nutrition in my practice.

Social Work/Therapy

I earned my Master of Social Work degree with Gold Medal Honours from Wilfrid Laurier University, combining Western mainstream studies and advanced standing concentration in Indigenous Focused Social Work. I also hold certificates in Addictions, Trauma, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and completed professional development workshops in clinical skills such as Expressive Arts Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Domestic Violence Risk Assessment and Management and Sexual Violence training. I am a licensed member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, as well as with the Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador Colleges for electronic service provision.

I have worked with Indigenous youth in education and mentorship roles for employment and skills training, and with youth and adults in providing mental health services, advocacy, and outreach services. Collective/intergenerational traumas, sexual abuse, life changes, work/career transitions, relationships, and family conflict are areas I have experience in.

My clinical expertise is working with individuals struggling with OCD, PTSD and related Anxiety disorders.

Homeopathic Medicine

I graduated from the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine with Honours, followed by a comprehensive internship, advanced studies and clinical training in Mumbai, India at the Other Song International Academy under Rajaan Sankaaran and Tanzania, Africa with Homeopathy for Health in Africa (HHA) under Jeremy Sherr.

I have attended numerous professional development workshops and conferences with experts in the field such as Lou Klein, Jan Scholten, Massimo Mangliavori, Miranda Castro, Patricia Hatherly, Alize Timmerman, Luc Montagnier, Sujit Chatterjee, Divya Chhabra, André Saine, Isaac Golden and Iris Bell.

My clinical experience held particular interest in disease prevention and mental health.

Nutrition

My area of special interest has always been mental health and preventative health strategies including nutrition, supplementation and lifestyle coaching. I have pursued advanced nutrition education and training from the Edison Institute of Natural Nutrition and attended continued education conferences with medical experts such as Mark Hyman, Woodson Merrell, David Perlmutter, Susan Blum and Gerard Mullin.

I have participated in training opportunities with leading supplement companies and organizations supporting efficacy through evidence-based research.

Undergraduate Studies

As a recipient of the Dean’s Medal and Distinguished Graduate awards from Brock University, I earned undergraduate degrees in Sociology, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Indigenous Adult Education. This background has provided a sound foundation for contextual understanding of intersectional social complexities that complicate daily living and make navigating oppressive social and educational systems challenging.
